Reigning sprints champion Rory Townsend features in BIKE Channel Canyon’s team for the opening round of the Tour Series in Redditch today.
The 21-year-old, from Addlestone, enjoyed a thrilling battle with Chris Lawless last season before prevailing in the final round in Portsmouth.
Rivalries will be renewed in the midlands this afternoon, with a team time trial the appetiser for tonight’s opening crit (7.30pm).
Tim Elverson’s first line-up also includes Harry Tanfield and Jack Pullar, who both starred in the same Pedal Heaven squad as Townsend last term.
They are joined by Chris Opie, who has won individual rounds and the overall team title in the past and returns to action following a year riding on the Pro Conti circuit with ONE Pro Cycling.
The line-up is completed by James Lowsley-Williams, who is also no stranger to the competition following spells with NFTO and Team UK Youth.
JLT Condor begin the series as reigning champions and title favourites. The team time trial, starting at 2.45pm, will decide who wears the leaders’ jerseys in the evening’s crit.
